Rise and Fall of the Taliban
The Taliban had risen to power in the mid-1990s in reaction to the anarchy and warlordism that arose after the withdrawal of Soviet forces. Many Taliban had been educated in madrassas in Pakistan and were largely from rural southern Pashtun backgrounds. In 1994, the Taliban developed enough strength to capture the city of Kandahar from a local warlord and proceeded to expand its control throughout Afghanistan, occupying Kabul in September 1996. By the end of 1998, the Taliban occupied about 90% of the country, limiting the opposition largely to a small mostly Tajik corner in the northeast and the Panjshir valley.
OBVIOUS PROBLEMS IN AFGHANISTAN..................
MINES.......................
they are a horrific danger in Afghanistan
many areas have not been cleared of mines recently
mines are planted by spitefully evil millitry occupants
they do not explode randomly, pressure is accidentally applied and when released, the mines explode
because of this many innocent limbs and lives are lost
many Afghans have false limbs
Afghanistan soldiers
MILITRY.......................
the militry provides a huge influence over the Afghanistan people
militry affairs affect many ordinary Afghanistan citizens
violence and rape is common amoung the millitry soldiers
the millitry is provided with a lot of power
they control Afghanistan, ruling ruthlessly
because of the political situation, they are needed
FAMILY MALTREATION..........................
one of the Taliban's theories is that woman and girls have no place at all
the husband 'owns' his wife entirely
it is legall for him to beat her and do what he likes
woman have no right at all
family violence is disturbingly common
in many cases, only the sons are valued
family inequality is common
TALIBAN POWER...........................
in the past Russia threatened to invade Afghanistan
Americia provided arms and found to enable the Taliban to keep the Russians out of Afghanistan
the Taliban succeeded
because of the extra power and money, the Taliban were able to rule Afghanistan
they have caused a lot of grief for Afghanistan and killed many good people
America feels somewhat guilty because the have played a major part in supporting the Taliban
the Taliban still operate in parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan
the Taliban have strong religious ideals
religion and political power combines
religion indicates that woman have little or no place
in harmony to that law, woman all wear veils in public, expressing modesty and meekness
